Kindergarten Enrollment Info

We look forward to welcoming new kindergarten students to our district! Children who will be five years old on or before September 1^st are eligible to being school in the upcoming school year.

Eligible kindergarten students, please follow these steps below:

1.  Attend Kindergarten Open House (typically held annually at all elementary schools in mid August) (continue with bullets about Meet your child’s teacher. See the classroom…..)

2.  Complete the Kindergarten Pre-enrollment process by following the New Student Enrollment Process linked here.

3.  Complete enrollment process at the Moline Education Center located at 1900 - 52nd Avenue, Moline. Dates/times are as follows:

Families new to the district wishing to enroll students for the 2026-2027 school year may complete the Online Registration portion of enrollment at this time. All new students are required to come to the Moline Education Center, 1900 - 52nd Avenue, Moline, to complete the registration process and verify residency on the following dates:

• You must create your own username & password.  Please document these in a safe place for future reference.
• You must provide a security email address for the system.  Please remember which email you use for this security measure.

STEP 2: Add your parent/guardian & household information

• Please click through each section, adding information, and click NEXT to advance.
• Any field, including opening hyperlinked documents, with a red asterisk is required. 
• Note: the “Other children in the house” step is requesting information on children who live in the home, but are NOT being enrolled at this time. 

STEP 3: Add the information for each of the school-aged students you are enrolling

• Add your first student and his/her information.
• Please click through each section, adding what is needed, and click next to advance.

• Repeat with additional students you wish to enroll.

STEP 4: Submit Online Registration

• Once all students have been added, and you have completed all steps across the top of the screen, you are ready to complete the registration process.
• Click the SUBMIT button to finalize your students’ registration.  
• If successful, a new pop-up window will open to confirm your submission.

New student applications will only be processed by the district during the address verification process. Please ensure you come to the Moline Education Center on the dates listed above to verify your residency in the Moline-Coal Valley School District and supply your child’s birth certificate, immunizations, and proof of physical examination

**Note: If you currently have a student enrolled in the Moline-Coal Valley School District, you can enroll a new student by logging into your existing Parent Portal account. 

Moline-Coal Valley School District does not refuse to admit or enroll a student because of that student's failure to present his/her student permanent or temporary record from a school attended previously. (105 ILCS 10/8.1)

Current students of the Moline-Coal Valley School District (Grades PK - 11) are encouraged to complete Online Registration as soon as possible.  The district transitioned to a new student information system called Infinite Campus, and parents/guardians must use this new information system for Online Registration for the 2026-2027 school year.

To complete Online Registration for the 2026-2027 school year in Infinite Campus, follow these steps:

STEP 1: Create your Parent Account

• Locate the Infinite Campus activation email sent to the email address shared with the district.   The email will contain a code unique to your family that must be used to set up your account.
• Click the link in your email to access the Infinite Campus parent account set-up.
• Input your unique family code (from the activation email) when prompted.
• You must create your own username & password.  Please document these in a safe place for future reference.
• You must provide a security email address for the system.  Please remember which email you use for this security measure.

STEP 2: Review your parent/guardian & household information

• These details have been imported from your current year information
• Please click through each section, edit what is needed, and click next to advance.
• Any field, including opening hyperlinked documents, with a red asterisk is required.

STEP 3: Review the information for each of your returning students

• From your home screen, click on one of your student names.
• Please click through each section, edit what is needed, and click next to advance.
• Any field, including opening hyperlinked documents, with a red asterisk if required.
• Return to your home screen and repeat with additional students listed.

STEP 4: Submit Online Registration

• Once all listed students have been updated, and you have completed all steps across the top of the screen, you are ready to complete the registration process.
• Click the SUBMIT button to finalize your students’ registration.  
• If successful, a new pop-up window will open to confirm your submission.  Your student(s) are considered fully enrolled for the 2026-2027 school year.

**Please note:  If Infinite Campus tells you that you may not complete Online Registration at this time, you will need to report to the District Make-Up Registration Event on August 7th from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Moline High School PE Center to verify your address prior to completing Online Registration.

PROOF OF RESIDENCY 

During the student registration process, parents/ guardians will be required to provide documentation for both student enrollment and residency. Before the registration process can be completed, a child’s parent/ guardian must provide proof of residency. Illinois School Code states that a child is entitled to enrollment in a district wherein he/she resides. The code further defines residence as a physical presence with an intention to remain on a permanent basis with the person(s) who have legal custody of the child.

Proof of residency requires documentation with the matching address of residence from each of the following categories to complete the registration process:

The district is aware that, for some families, circumstances may require that additional information be provided in order to adequately meet the requirements for proving residency. Below are several examples for which additional documentation will be required to assist in completing the student registration process.

• If the parent/guardian resides with a district resident, the district resident must provide the residency information for category one and up to two documents from category two. The parent/guardian must supply at least one proof of residency from category two. The ISBE Form 85-51, Affidavit of Enrollment and Residency, must be completed and signed.
• If you are a non-parent seeking to enroll a student, you must complete and sign ISBE Form 85-51, Affidavit of Enrollment and Residency. You must also provide the residency information for category one and up to two documents from category two.
   

Falsifying residency information for the purpose of a child attending school in a district is a Class C Misdemeanor.

If a student is determined to be a non-resident of Moline School District for whom tuition must be charged, the person(s) enrolling the student is/are liable for non-resident tuition from the date the student began attending as a non-resident.

The Moline School District reserves the right to evaluate the evidence presented. Merely presenting the items listed in the documentation procedure does not guarantee admission.

When you register, don't forget:

• Completed physical exam form (required for incoming pre-school, kindergarten, 6th grade, 9th grade, and new students)
• Documented proof from a physician/medical professional of receipt of T-dap vaccination for students in 6th-12th grades
• (for first year students) Certified copy of student's birth certificate issued by county, state, or other reliable proof of age & identity
• Money for student book fee (make checks payable to Moline Board of Education)

All families registering students in the Moline School System must live within the boundaries of Moline-Coal Valley School District No. 40 and within the boundaries of that school unless they have received transfer permission in writing from the Board of Education office. Families that fill out the registration form stating an address within Moline or Coal Valley must live at that address. If it is found that false information was provided to the school, and the student(s) live outside of Moline-Coal Valley School District No. 40, these families will be required to register their children within the community where they live. They will also be required to pay all out-of-district tuition and fees as provided by law for the time any children attended Moline or Coal Valley schools illegally.

Q: Why is registration held annually?

The health and safety of our students are important. We ask you to update emergency information/registration each year to re-verify parent/guardian work phone numbers, emergency contact persons, and the name of your doctor. In a medical emergency with your child, this information is critical. 

Q: I'm new to the school district and need a class supply list. Where do I find one if my school isn't open yet?

Copies of all school supply lists are available on this website or by calling the school district offices located at the building called the Moline-Coal Valley Education Center - 1900 52nd  Avenue, Moline, 743-1600. (Summer hours 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

Q: Are my children allowed to come to registration?

Registration for returning students will be completed online through Infinite Campus.  Families with students “NEW” to the district should click the New Student Registration tab above.  

Q: What if our family can't afford the textbook fee?

If you receive aid under Article IV of the Illinois Public Aid Code or meet income guidelines for free lunch, the Board of Education will loan you free textbooks.

For all in-district building transfer reasons, except dual language program enrollment,  please read the information provided prior to completing the application.  If you are new to the district you must submit the new student application for the school you are currently expected to attend based on your residency school boundary.  The information on this page is for families applying for an in-district transfer from one building to another.  For DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM transfers, please contact Lynsy Oswald at loswald@molineschools.org.

Students are always afforded the opportunity to attend the Moline-Coal Valley school based on the district boundary map and the location of the guardian’s residence.  School attendance areas for each school are established by the School Board aligned with Board Policy 7:30.  “Students shall attend the school in the attendance zone in which they reside and/or to which they are assigned, unless special permission is granted by the Superintendent or designee” (105 ILCS 5/10-21.3, 5/10-21.3a, and 5/10-22.5). On rare occasions, a transfer to another district school may be permitted through an application process. 

Students will be automatically disqualified from transfer consideration if they fail to meet one or more of the following criteria.

1. The student must be fully enrolled for the current school year. (upcoming school year for summer requests)
2. Your student was present for 90% or more of the school days in the previous school year.
3. Your student was issued fewer than 2 major office referrals and demonstrated consistently positive behavior and conduct during the previous school year.

If your student meets ALL of the above criteria, the district will consider a request for transfer.  Transfers are approved only in rare circumstances and are at the sole discretion of the superintendent or designee.  Generally, requests are considered in relation to classroom space in the requested school, special education caseload in the requested school, academic programming considerations, and the rationale communicated by the guardian in the request.  Daycare arrangements, transportation, family members at other schools, and other personal family preferences are not typically considerations for transfer approval.

If your family has moved from one district school boundary to another, your student’s school should be updated through the summer enrollment and registration process, and NOT through a request for transfer.  Approved transfers at the elementary level will last until the end of elementary school* without further application.  You will need to re-apply for a transfer at the Middle School Level if you want to attend a school other than your home boundary school.

*Transfers may be revoked if an approved student fails to meet attendance, behavior, and conduct standards.

The window for requesting a transfer for the beginning of a new school year will run from July 5th through July 25th annually.  Once the transfer request window closes, it will not reopen for start-of-school-year placement.  To request a transfer during the open window, click the link below to complete the application.

The window for requesting a transfer after the school year has begun will remain open from the beginning of Quarter 2 until the end of Quarter 3.  Typically, this is from mid-October until mid-March, but you should check the District calendar for specific dates.  To request a transfer during the open window, click the link below to complete the application.

Accelerated Placement Program

Required Public Posting 105 ILCS 5/14A

 The District provides an Accelerated Placement Program (APP). The APP advances the District’s goal of providing educational programs with opportunities for each student to develop to his or her maximum potential. The APP offers an educational setting with curriculum options usually reserved for students who are older or in higher grades than the student participating in the APP. APP options include, but may not be limited to: (a) accelerating a student in a single subject; (b) other grade-level acceleration; and (c) early entrance to kindergarten or first grade.

Current students eligible for the APP will be screened during the school year by a team of stakeholders and assessed by a school psychologist. Student referrals for evaluation can be made by a staff member or guardian, teacher, and should be submitted to the building principal. The evaluation process includes multiple measures and is guided by the use of the research-based Iowa Acceleration Scale. These considerations need to be made prior to April 1.

Families requesting a screening for early entrance into kindergarten must contact the district office or Jefferson Early Learning Center no later than March 15 of the school year in which early entrance is being requested. Students who currently attend Jefferson will be able to use Jefferson school data for consideration. All other families must provide a report of performance from the pre-school they are attending. This report must be provided no later than April 1. Screening/assessment for early entrance into kindergarten or first grade occurs no later than May 1. Students must meet the criteria set for by the district in order to be allowed entry into Kindergarten if they are not 5 years of age prior to September 1. Families should also be aware that the APP for early admission is reserved for students who are advanced compared to their same-aged peers.
