College Board Information
College Board is the organization that creates and administers the SAT, PSAT, and AP exams. All students are encouraged to make a personal account with College Board in order to view their exam scores. Students can also use their account to send exam scores to colleges and/or universities and also register for SAT exams. Visit collegeboard.org to set up your account.
SAT
The SAT is offered throughout the year for students at various locations. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch may also qualify for an SAT fee waiver. Please see your counselor if you think you qualify.
You can check available dates and register by clicking this link or visiting collegeboard.org.
PSAT
Freshmen and sophomore students are required to take the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 respectively. These are preparatory exams for the SAT during their junior year. Click on the following links to learn more about the PSAT 8/9 and the PSAT 10.
MHS traditionally offers the PSAT/NMSQT on the Saturday administration date. If this interferes with a student's schedule they are encouraged to reach out to other local high schools to see if they are offering the exam on the Wednesday or makeup administration dates. Information about the National Merit Scholarship Program can be found here.
AP Courses
MHS offers a variety of AP courses for students, please see the list below.
AP courses give students the option to tackle college level work while they're still in high school. Students can earn college credit and placement for taking AP courses by taking the AP exam in May. There is a fee for the exam and students must register through their College Board account in the fall to take exams. Please talk to your student's AP teacher or counselor if you have questions.

Financial Aid
Presentations from September 10, 2024
Moline High School Financial Aid Night Presentation
Black Hawk College Financial Aid Night Presentation
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA is generally completed by any high school senior or early graduate junior who is planning to attend an institute of higher education after high school. This includes 4-year colleges/universities, 2-year colleges and trade/technical schools.
The 2025-2026 FAFSA will open in December 1, 2024.
Graduation Requirement:
The FAFSA is a graduation requirement for all graduating seniors in the state of Illinois. Some students will not be eligible to complete the FAFSA, and they could complete the Alternate Application for Illinois Financial Aid instead. Some students' post-high school plans do not require financial aid, and they could complete a non-participation form/waiver.
Senior families should complete an MHS form in Skyward titled FAFSA Participation Form to indicate if they are opting in to complete the FAFSA or opting out with the Nonparticipation Form/Waiver.
*Opting out with a Nonparticipation Form/Waiver is appropriate for students if their future pathway doesn’t require or accept financial aid. Here are the steps for parents to edit and/or waive participation in Skyward AND complete the waiver online.
After completing the MHS Form in Skyward, senior families opting to complete a 2025-2026 FAFSA should then complete Option 1 or 2 depending on their circumstances—
1) File a FAFSA online; (FSA ID). The first date you may do this is on December 1, 2024. Parents: You will need your tax documents from the previous year. (The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the online application that allows a student to apply simultaneously for federal student aid [including the Pell Grant, work-study opportunities, and federal student loans] and the Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) grant. Many 4-year colleges, 2-year colleges, trade schools and vocational programs use it for their aid programs too).
OR
2) If eligible: File an Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid. (The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid allows qualifying undocumented students and transgender students who are not otherwise eligible for federal financial aid to apply for Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) grants to attend eligible Illinois colleges, universities, and career education programs). Scholarship Information
A scholarship is a type of “gift aid” that rewards a student for grades, athletics, a unique skill, a special talent, financial needs or even a specific career interest. Scholarships do not typically need to be paid back, though some scholarships have program requirements and/or obligations. Make sure you understand the terms and conditions before you accept any money. The money you receive may help you pay for tuition, books and/or room and board. Scholarship money can come from many different sources, such as the college you want to attend, the government, or different public or private organizations (such as a workplace, church or not-for-profit group). However, watch for financial aid scams when doing your search.
Students can start looking for scholarships as soon as they have made the decision to go to college (4-year college, 2-year college, trade/technical school). The majority of scholarships are available to high school seniors, but students can start their search as early as sophomore or junior year. Also, keep looking for other sources of financial aid; new scholarships are created all the time.
**Please note the scholarships listed on this website are not a comprehensive list. Students and families are encouraged to do their own research and check in with the institution they are planning to attend for more available scholarships.**
