2019 MHS 'Blast to the Past - Retro 80's' Homecoming

Homecoming Week 2019


Date:  Week of September 9-14, 2019

Theme:  “Blast from the Past - Retro ‘80’s”




Week’s Events for Students:


Float Building (Sunday through Thursday evenings, generally 6:00-9:00 p.m.)

  • 9th and 10th Grades - Browning Field Shed
  • 11th and 12th Grades - Scene Shop of the BPAC



Monday, September 9 - Movie Night (NOTE: LOCATION CHANGE)

  • Join us at Bartlett Performing Arts Center Auditorium for a fun movie beginning at 7:00 p.m.
  • Concessions will be available for purchase.


Tuesday, September 10 - Bonfire, Volleyball Match (Wharton), and Soccer (MHS Soccer Bowl)

  • All fall sports teams and their fans are invited to kick off the week’s competitions with Moline’s annual bonfire and sports rally, beginning at 5:15 p.m.
  • Follow the bonfire/rally by cheering the Maroons on to victory, either on the volleyball court at Wharton or the soccer bowl at the high school!


Wednesday, September 11 - Half Day at Wharton Field House

  • All students (with limited, preplanned exceptions) will report to Wharton Field House for the short school day on Wednesday, rather than coming to MHS.
  • Metrolink and Arsenal buses will transport students to Wharton instead of MHS, and parents are asked to do the same!  Metrolink bus changes are linked and posted.
  • At Wharton, students will experience Homecoming Coronation, activities fair, and some fun competition (see rough schedule below)
    • 8:10 - students seated for attendance
    • 8:30 - Homecoming Coronation begins
    • 9:00 - Outdoor Activities and Club/Activities Fair
    • 10:30 - Battle of the Classes & Battle of the Champions Volleyball Tournament
    • 11:00 - Moline give-aways
    • 11:10 - Student dismissal from Wharton Field House
  • An early start to Wednesday Floatbuilding - spend your afternoon getting ready for the parade!!


Thursday, September 12 - Finish the floats and get your plans together for the weekend fun!



Friday, September 13 - Parade and Friday Night Lights!

  • Early dismissal for all M-CV Schools (unless otherwise informed by building principal)
    • High School - 11:10 a.m.
    • Middle Schools - 1:00 p.m.
    • Elementary Schools - 1:15 p.m. (note, this is 15 minutes earlier than prior years!)
  • Parade line-up for all registered participants - 1:00 p.m.
    • MHS West Student parking lot (enter from 34th Street)
    • All other cars removed from West Lot by 12:00 noon; student drivers may park along the south and east sides of the building if needed.
  • Parade - 2:00 p.m. (Route Change for bridge construction!!)
    • Parade will begin at 2:00 p.m. at its traditional starting point of 3600 Avenue of the Cities (High School Main Entrance)
    • Parade route officially ends at the intersection of Avenue of the Cities and 27th Street.
    • Parade participants will return to MHS West student lot for parent pick up.
  • Friday Night Football versus Rock Island - GO MAROONS!
    • Freshman Game - 5:00 p.m.
    • Presentation of Homecoming Court - between games
    • Varsity Game - 7:30 p.m.


Saturday, September 14 - Homecoming Dance

  • 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. at the Davenport River Center, 136 E 3rd St, Davenport, IA 52801
  • Semi-formal event (no jeans)
