CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

Today, during periods 6 and 7, the MHS Minority Leaders of Tomorrow will host a viewing of the movie, "Freedom Writers".   The suggested donation for admission is $3. Tickets will be available in the bookstore. In order to attend the movie, you must have your 6th and 7th period teachers sign the ticket before the event. 

Do you want to learn American Sign Language?  MHS is proud to announce that we have ASL Club.  ASL Club is open to students and staff.  We have a meeting today during 4th hour in the InfoHub.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Jackson or Mrs. Engle in room E113.

There will be a brief Student Congress meeting Wednesday at 7:45am in D125 to take a group picture for the yearbook.

Authentic Voices will be selling wooden roses for Valentine's Day today and Wednesday outside the cafeteria during 1st period lunches. $1 for 1 rose, $5 for 6 roses and $10 for a dozen roses.  Wooden roses will be delivered on Thursday, February 13th for Valentine's Day.

COUNSELING CENTER

Students interested in the Area Career Center for next school year must turn in their applications to the Counseling Center by Thursday, February 13th.

Rock Island County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships - Applicants do not need to major in agriculture to be eligible for a scholarship. Applicants do need to be a member or a dependent of a member of the Rock Island County Farm Bureau to apply. This has a deadline of March 27th.

Society of Italian-Americans Scholarship - $1,000 scholarship open to seniors with at least one Italian ancestor. This has a deadline of April 1st.

We the Students Essay Contest - Applicants must write what civil discourse means to them. The students who provide the most thoughtful, meaningful responses to this question will receive scholarship awards of up to $7,500. A total of fourteen students will receive scholarship prizes totaling $20,000. This has a deadline of April 15th.

PB&J Scholarship – This scholarship is open to students who have experienced challenges in their life that may not have allowed them to perform well academically but still have the drive to succeed. Applicants must attend a 2- or 4-year college in the fall of 2020. This has a deadline of May 31st.

SPORTS

Attention anyone interested in trying out for baseball this spring:  There will be a brief meeting Thursday after school in the East Gym regarding information for the upcoming season.

MISC

All girls interested in Fearlessly Girl should attend the short informational meeting on Tuesday, February 18th at 3:10 in room J329.

Tickets for the Sadie Hawkins dance are on sale in the bookstore for $10. The dance will be held from 7-10pm on Saturday, February 22nd at Wharton Fieldhouse. Please note that all guest forms need to be approved by Thursday, February 13th.

Students:  please be vigilant while traveling on and around the MHS campus.  Traffic is congested, roads and sidewalks may be slippery, and we want students to be safe while driving and walking to and from school.  Students are STRONGLY encouraged to use crosswalks ONLY, when crossing the school drive and streets surrounding MHS.  Stay safe and be smart!

The Moline Public Library will be holding a Chocolate Party on Thursday, February 13 @ 6:00 p.m. Chocolate tastings, chocolate games, and more. Call to register.
