CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

There will be a brief Student Congress meeting Wednesday at 7:45am in D125 to take a group picture for the yearbook.

On Tuesday, February 11th, during periods 6 and 7, the MHS Minority Leaders of Tomorrow will host a viewing of the movie, "Freedom Writers".   The suggested donation for admission is $3. Tickets will be available in the bookstore. In order to attend the movie, you must have your 6th and 7th period teachers sign the ticket before the event. 

Authentic Voices will be selling wooden roses for Valentine's Day today, Tuesday, and Wednesday outside the cafeteria during 1st period lunches. $1 for 1 rose, $5 for 6 roses and $10 for a dozen roses.  Wooden roses will be delivered on Thursday, February 13th for Valentine's Day.

Do you want to learn American Sign Language? Come and sign up for ASL Club today during lunch in the cafeteria. The first meeting will be held Tuesday, February 11th during 4th hour in the InfoHub. 

COUNSELING CENTER

Students interested in the Area Career Center for next school year must turn in their applications to the Counseling Center by Thursday, February 13th.

SPORTS

Congratulations to our 5 Regional Champions this past weekend and their advancement to the Sectional Tournament- Charlie Farmer 106, Noah Tapia 113, Kole Brower 132, DeAnthony Parker 182, and Cobie Underwood HWT. 

MISC

All girls interested in Fearlessly Girl should attend the short informational meeting on Tuesday, February 18th at 3:10 in room J329.

Tickets for the Sadie Hawkins dance are on sale in the bookstore for $10. The dance will be held from 7-10pm on Saturday, February 22nd at Wharton Fieldhouse. Please note that all guest forms need to be approved by Thursday, February 13th.

Students:  please be vigilant while traveling on and around the MHS campus.  Traffic is congested, roads and sidewalks may be slippery, and we want students to be safe while driving and walking to and from school.  Students are STRONGLY encouraged to use crosswalks ONLY, when crossing the school drive and streets surrounding MHS.  Stay safe and be smart!

It’s not too late to apply to be an election judge.  You must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This position gives you the opportunity to participate in the election and pays $150.00.  See Mrs. Woods in the main office if you are interested.

This last Saturday Moline High School's Encore! team had a strong weekend representing Moline by placing first overall as a team in the IHSA regional tournament at Monmouth-Roseville among the 11 schools competing. Moline's team surpassed the runner up team by a margin of 28 points. The following students will be advancing to the Sectional tournament in Washington, IL.

Keith Glass and Madison Crumbleholme placed 1st as tournament champions in Dramatic Duet Acting.

Izabel Jernigan placed 1st as tournament champion in Dramatic Interpretation.

Tori Adamson placed second in Extemporaneous Speaking

Keith Glass and Tori Adamson placed 1st as tournament champions in Humorous Duet Acting.

Zoe Zelnio placed Third in Humorous Interpretation.

Liv Franks placed fourth in Informative Speaking

Kate Schaechter placed First as tournament champion in Oratorical Declamation.

Gabe Lareau placed First as tournament champion in Original Comedy.

Genevieve Strasser placed First as tournament champion in Original Oratory.

Briana Castro placed Second in Poetry Reading.

Maddy Rhea placed First as tournament champion in Prose Reading.

Wish us all "broken legs" as we advance this weekend to the Sectional Tournament in Washington to represent Moline High School!

On Saturday, the MHS JV Academic Team competed in the Knight's Challenge Scholastic Bowl at Rockford Auburn High School. Congratulations to the Moline A Team including, Ben Aumuller, Simra Babu, Siri Chintala, Henry Mohr, and Martin Poor, for making it to the championship bracket. Also, congratulations to Zach Bitner, captain of the Moline B Team, for earning All-Tournament Team Honors. Great job everyone!
