Is it a good idea to change a story because the truth is too disturbing or disgusting?

  • It is not okay to change the ending of a story because it’s gross. Then you change the ending point, so you might as well rewrite the whole story. Who cares if it’s gross, you obviously wrote it for a reason.
  • I don't think you should change the ending of a story if it's the truth. There's no need to sugar coat reality if that's what's really happening and if it matches the story. If I were to change the story, it'd be very slightly, and I would only do it for certain reasons.
  • It depends on the audience. If a story is about a guy murdering his family and is intended to be read by kids it should be changed. Although in most cases I think there's no point in telling a story if its not true. If someone happens to be offended by the frankness of a story they don't have to read it. An author should write for themselves instead of the audience.
  • I believe that it would depend on who the story was intended for, on whether or not it would be ok to change a story. If the story was intended for small children then I believe that it would be ok to change a story, after all they could get scared. However, if the story were intended for adults then I would despise a person for changing the truth of a story. I believe adults need to be informed, and prepared for anything, so if a disgusting truth can help them do that it is necessary to keep the original story.
  • i think that because the true ending is nasty i think it should be changed because most likely little kids are going to read it and be mortified by it. like the Disney stores for example, they are all based off of some urban legend that was really disturbing.. but they were changed for the little kids.
  • I don't think you should change the story i think that you should just leave the gross part out or tone it down a little bit.
  • I think that it is okay to change a story some but not completely. Then if you change the story to much it might just keep changing and will end up completely different. I am not sure if I would want to hear a really gross middle or ending. I might change it some but not the whole story and I would leave some details in.
  • I think that as long as the story isn't really really important to something or someone then it's okay to change the end if it's to disgusting. But, if the story is key to saving someones life or keeping someone out of prison or something then it should not be changed, no matter how gross it is.
  • I do not think it is okay to change a story because the truth of it is too disgusting. I believe that i story should be told exactly how it is. The truth is always the more pure thing to hear because it isn't tainted with lies or any type of deception. Tell things how they are so there is no confusion.

Holiday HopesHi, Kiddos,

I hope while I'm gone next week you will get all  your work done to the very best of your abilities.

Seniors: Finish your boxing essays, all the assignments for the SSR unit, and do another article review or two.

Juniors: Finish peer editing and revising your causal analysis essays, finish Our America reading and journal assignments, and get your reading journals organized for conferences. Your blog page have links to everything in case you lost something or forgot to complete it the first time.

Creative Writers: Start and finish putting together your Flat Stanley assignments. I am very much looking forward to seeing them when I return! Also, you should be completing the character development and short story worksheets we started a few weeks ago. You will have one more short story due from those worksheets before the semester ends.

* thanks to Alaynna for the fun holiday decoration!

Dear Students,

While you were in class on Friday, May, 22, I attended a WordPress workshop with the invaluable Mr. Jay Bohnsack.

You might think being out of the classroom is less work and less stress, but it takes so much extra preparation that my brain often hurts on these professional development days. It's worth it, though!
