Letter to Senior Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians of MHS Seniors,

In a few short months the anticipation and excitement that surrounds graduation will be upon you and your son or daughter. To honor our graduates, the Moline community has once again been busy planning for Project Graduation 2013, our 28 year!

Project Graduation, an all night alcohol and drug-free party exclusively for MHS graduating seniors is a night to honor our graduates in a safe environment. The event is held at Two Rivers YMCA where local volunteers completely transform the Y into a magical evening. The evening is filled with live entertainment, food of all kinds, games, psychics, a casino. a DJ, a hypnotist and much, much more. Prizes are also awarded during the event.

One of the primary goals of Project Graduation is to provide new grads with a safe, sober and spectacular night. Parents are encouraged to talk with seniors this graduation season about safety issues, such as, underage drinking and impaired driving. Communication strategies for parents and tips on hosting safe teen parties can be found on the Community Alliance for Youth (CAFY) website at www.cafy.net.

Project Graduation takes place starting at 9:00pm on May 20th and runs through Monday morning May 21st at 3:00am. Seniors are welcome to check-in at 9:00-10:00 pm and will not be allowed to leave the building until 3:00 am. If by chance your senior would want to leave, we will call you. There are ample chaperones to help the event run smoothly including ensuring that all the seniors are safely enjoying themselves and stay in the building until 3 am. Parents or our graduates can get a good night's sleep knowing that their graduates are in a safe and fun environment.

Project Graduation is a totally self-supporting event. The funding comes from outside the school. The primary fundraising comes from parent donations, business donations and various local restaurants.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you for any donations made to this wonderful event in past years and would be very appreciative if you would consider a donation this year. Every donation helps ensure that this terrific event will continue for years to come. You can fill out the Donation-Form and mail it in.

Project Graduation is one of those traditions that make this community special. Thank you for supporting this magical event for your senior!

Sincerely,

Scott & Pam Lohman, 2013 Co-chairs
