CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

Student-led Bible Study will meet today after school from 3:10-3:40 in J227.  All are welcome.

Did you know that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among young people ages 10 to 24? And LGBTQ youth are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide as their straight peers. Today at MHS, several students are participating in a "Day of Silence" to bring awareness to this problem. These students may be friends or family of members of the LGTBQ who are standing in solidarity with their peers. Notice the voices that you don't hear today.

COUNSELING CENTER

Volunteers are needed to work Willard’s school carnival on May 6th from 5:30-7:30 pm.  f you’re interested, see Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center to sign up.

Students interested in Nursing, Radiography, Respiratory Care or Health Sciences: There will be an Open House at Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences on Tuesday, April 19th from 4 to 6 p.m. Come to the Counseling Center to register.

MHS Cheer Tryouts are approaching!  A parent/participant meeting will be Thursday, April 28th at 6:00 in the MHS Cafeteria.  Tryout clinics will be Tuesday, May 3rd and Wednesday, May 4th in the Gymnastics Room from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.  Tryout date will be Thursday, May 5th in the Gymnastics Room starting at 4:00 pm.  Please pick up a Cheer Tryout Information Packet in the Athletic Office.

MHS 2016 Season Color Guard Tryouts will be April 25-29th on the MHS front lawn from 3:30 to 4:30 PM.  This is a flag and rifle competitive, performance team.

The MHS Intramural Powerlifting meet will be held Monday evening April 25th.  You must pre-register at the bookstore by Friday April 22nd.

Our first ever Dance Marathon is tonight from 7-10 pm in the West Gym, check in starts at 6:30! Please come for an evening of dancing, activities, and fun!

Quad City Arts is still looking for qualified local dancers, ages 15-21, to apply for this summer’s Metro Arts Youth Apprenticeship Program’s dance project!  The link to the online application can be found on quadcityarts.com (http://quadcityarts.com/programs/metro-arts/). The deadline for applications is Wednesday, April 20.  Email mday@quadcityarts.com with questions.

All juniors will sit for the ACT exam next Tuesday, April 19th.  Our students are lucky to have a community who supports a free college exam for every student.  We are confident that you are well prepared for this assessment.  Lists of testing rooms have been posted throughout the building.  Please be sure to check these lists in advance to determine your room assignment.

Special testing rules will be in effect.  ACT prohibits phones from the testing room; please leave your phone at home or in your car.  A photo ID is required for admittance to the testing rooms.  Please bring a calculator and three #2 pencils.  A good night sleep is also recommended.  Breakfast will be available to all juniors in the cafeteria starting at 7:30 a.m.  Please be in the testing room ready to test by 8:05 a.m.

Special buses are not available on Tuesday, April 19th, the day of ACT testing for juniors.  You will need to go the Avenue of the Cities to catch a bus.

Unity Point Health Care is seeking seniors that are planning to go directly into the work force after graduation.  This is a full time position with benefits as a cleaning technician.  If you are interested in more information, see Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center.

This is an important announcement for all students.  There will be a modified schedule on Tuesday, April 19th, and only junior students will be in attendance on that date.  Juniors will be testing on the ACT from 8 a.m. until 11:50 a.m. and will be dismissed for the remainder of the day.  There will be no school for 9th, 10th, and 12th grade students.

TAG is your chance to help plan programs and events for the library, suggest books and other materials, and earn service hours. And at 6:00 the library will host a MaKey MaKey workshop.
