MHS Bible Study will meet tomorrow in room J227 from 3:10-3:40.  All are welcome!

The Authentic Voices group is selling real carnations for Valentine’s Day.  The cost is one for $1.50 and 4 for $5.00.  The flowers will be sold today in the hallways leading to the cafeteria.  The flowers will be delivered Friday morning.  Please support our group.

Do you write creatively? MHS' Kaleidoscript is currently accepting submissions for this year's creative arts magazine. Look for the posters around school and check out our blog for more information. Deadline is March 6th!

COUNSELING CENTER

Any student who is considering signing up for dual credit English class next year or have already taken two computer dual classes and are planning on signing up for more, need to take the Compass test. Today the test may be taken at 3:10 P.M. in room B325.  Sign-up is in the Counseling Center and outside the Pub in B wing, 2nd floor.

If you like to make movies, and money, stop in the Library Media Center for the specifications for a short film contest sponsored by all Quad City area Libraries.  Top prize is $100. All participants will have their film screened at the Premiere Party with free pizza.

Calling all creative people! Kaleidoscript wants your art! We are currently sponsoring a contest for the cover of this year's creative arts magazine, the Kaleidoscript. Look for the posters around school and check out our blog for more information. Deadline is February 20th!

Moline High School is starting an environmental awareness group called "Moline Green Team." Our first meeting is Wednesday right after school in Room B214.  We're beginning plans for our first Earth Day project. Everyone is welcome.

Attention all students and staff....The time you have been waiting for is finally here!  The new state championship MHS Bass fishing team shirts and hoodie sweatshirts have arrived and are now for sale in the bookstore.  All proceeds will be used to help fund the bass team as they attempt to be the first high school bass team to defend a state championship.  Visit the bookstore to pick one up or contact Mr. Albrecht in B322 if you have questions.  As always, thank you for supporting our MHS Bass team."

Attention all 1st semester Health students:  If you certified in CPR last semester, your CPR cards are ready.  Please see your Health teacher sometime this week to pick it up.

Students: raisin cookies, yogurt and a variety of juices are now being offered during lunch in the cafeteria. Also breakfast is now serving oatmeal in addition to the regular breakfast pizza, cereal, fruit and other breakfast items.

Students: You must present your student ID when purchasing food in the cafeteria. You will be sent to the No ID line if you do not have your student ID.

Emaan Ali placed 8th in Radio Speaking.
Morgan Anderson placed 8th in Dramatic Interpretation.

Quinn Daley placed 6th in Informative Speaking.

Maggie Driscal placed 3rd in Original Comedy and will be advancing to Sectionals.

Christian Frieden and JJ Schrick placed 1st in Humorous Duet Acting and will be advancing to Sectionals.

Abby McNaught placed 4th in Oratorical Declamation and will be advancing to Sectionals.

Abby McNaught placed 3rd in Original Oratory and will be advancing to Sectionals.

Karen Sancen placed 4th in Extemporaneous Speaking and will be advancing to Sectionals.

JJ Schrick placed 7th in Poetry Reading.
Elane Edwards, Hannah Frye, Luke Giovanine, Matt Hayes, Ethan Johnson, Emma Kindred, Allissa Krogman, Pubali Kundu, Aaron Miller, Ryan Reed, and Adam Sanders all placed 1st as in ensemble in Performance in the Round and will be advancing to Sectionals.

As a team, Moline was able to place 6th overall in our region, competing against 12 schools. Encore! is excited to have the opportunity to represent our school this coming weekend at the Sectional tournament at Rochelle Township High School. Please wish the team luck as we prepare our pieces for competition this weekend!

COUNSELING CENTER

The SOAR Scholarship offered by the Sedona Group and WQAD is now open to graduating seniors.  This scholarship has a due date of April 26 and may be downloaded from the counseling website.

Seniors--Quad City Scholars and ISAC will be holding a FAFSA completion event at Moline High School next Tuesday, February 10th from 3:30 to 7:30 in B220.  Bring your family's 2014 tax information, and get your FAFSA completed before the grant money is gone for students attending college next year.  Refreshments will be served.

A local clothing company is donating long and short sleeved dress shirts for men.  If you would like some dress shirts for you or your family members, please come to the Counseling Center to sign up today.  Supplies are limited.

The Moline Public Library is hosting a Graphic Novel Workshop on Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. to12:30 P.M. This workshop will introduce students to the history of cartooning, creating a comic strip, publishing, and more. Space is limited and registration is required. Bus passes will be available to registered participants. Call the Moline Library for more information.

Jared Sountris received a Silver and Bronze medal for skiing at the Special Olympics Winter Games in Galena, Illinois!  Congratulations Jared!

Sophomores--You have until today to complete your online scheduling for next year.  The directions to do online scheduling and the scheduling PowerPoint are on the MHS web site under Academics and Counselor Newsletter.  You need to use your own Skyward login and password.  If you have questions, please see your counselor.

There will be a Young Women's Political Leadership Program in the summer for young women in high school who aspire to run for political office.  If you are interested, please see your counselor.  The deadline to apply is February 15th.

2015 Graduates:  Please check your name on the diploma list outside the Registrar’s Office.  This is how it will appear on your diploma.  Make all changes with Mrs. Valdes.  Changes made after today will cost $5.00.

The Brilliant Companions, a Doctor Who fan club, will meet at the Moline Public Library on Monday, February 2 at 6:30 P.M. to discuss season 9 of the Classic Doctor Who featuring Jon Pertwee. This program is free and open to all ages. No registration is required.
