COUNSELING CENTER

Seniors if you need help completing a FAFSA, there is an event at WIU Quad Cities on Thursday, January 29th.  If you are interested, see Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center.

There is a job opportunity for child care from Tuesday to Friday, 2:30 to 6:30 P.M.  See Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center for more information.

The Society of Italian Americans Scholarship is now open to senior students.  This scholarship is worth $1000 and is due May 1.  Applications may be downloaded from the counseling website.

SPORTS

Attention all students and staff:  The Bass Team blowout sale has officially begun!  All remaining 2014 shirts and hoodie sweatshirts have been reduced by an unbelievable 60% off.  T-shirts are now 6.00 and hoodie sweatshirts are just 12.00.  There are about 25 items remaining so get one while supplies last.  Please contact Coach Albrecht in B322 if you have any questions.

Don't miss the hilarious Winter Play, "Figments." The performances are Friday, & Saturday at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium. Tickets are $6.00 for students and $8.00 for adults. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Bookstore or at the door the night of the show. This play contains some material that may be unsuitable for young audience members.

2015 Graduates:  Please check your name on the diploma list outside the Registrar’s Office.  This is how it will appear on your diploma.  Make all changes with Mrs. Valdes.  Changes made after January 30, 2015 will cost $5.00.

The Bass team will begin practicing this week on Tuesday and Thursday after school in the cafeteria from 3:15-4:15 and Saturday morning at Washington Elementary from 9-11 am. See Coach Albrecht in B322 if you have questions or cannot attend.

The Moline Public Library is hosting a Graphic Novel Workshop on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting January 24. This workshop will introduce students to the history of cartooning, creating a comic strip, publishing, and more. Space is limited and registration is required. Bus passes will be available to registered participants. Call the Moline Library for more information.

Stop by the Teen Corner of the Moline Public Library for TEEN-ucopia. There’s a variety of games for Nintendo Wii and Xbox One, board games, and crafts. Make a button or book page silhouette of your favorite BBC TV shows like Doctor Who and Sherlock!

There will be a Crime Stoppers meeting today at 3:10 in C-123 (Mrs. Mahieu’s room). This will be a very informative meeting, so please plan to attend.

MHS Book Club will be meeting today in the library during your lunch.  See you then!

The Drama Club meeting is canceled today due to Grease auditions and Figments rehearsal.  Break a leg!

There will be a Kaleidoscript meeting today at 3:15 in B215.  All members please attend. We will hand out production schedules and assign duties.  We are also discussing our upcoming lollipop fundraiser!  See you there!

Any student who is considering signing up for dual credit English class next year or have already taken two computer dual classes and are planning on signing up for more need to take the Compass test.  The first date to take the test at MHS is Wednesday, January 21st at 3:10 in room B325.  Sign up in the Counseling Center and outside the Pub on B wing, 2nd floor.

The Moline Public Library’s Anime Club will meet after school today from 3:30 to 5:30. This group is open to teens and tweens ages 12 to 21 who love anime, manga, and all things Japanese. Drop by to watch anime, enjoy snacks, and make new friends.

Congratulations to Jared Sountris!  He received a Gold and Silver medal last week at Snowstar in Andalusia. He competed in Special Olympics Slalom and Downhill Skiing.  He will now be competing at State in February.  Great job, Jarod!

Congratulations to our Moline Special Olympics Basketball Team!  They won a gold medal and a trophy for the school at the District Tournament this weekend! They are now headed to the State Basketball Competition and ISU in March! Great Job- Javier Acosta, Logan Frazelle, Weston Lavino, Nathaniel Littrell, Clayton McPherson, Tim Millard and Jared Sountris.

School musical try-outs for GREASE will be next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the choir room C125. You must be prepared to sing 16 measures of a Broadway song. You are expected to provide the music. No unaccompanied auctions. Piano accompaniment will be provided. Auditions will run from 3:30-5:30. You must sign up to audition in the choir room C125. You will also be asked to read a short excerpt from the script. Any questions? See Ms. Callahan in C125.
