Authentic Voices: bring your beautiful faces and smiles to the auditorium Friday (instead of today) during 3rd period. You will have your group picture taken for the yearbook.

 

You only have 3 days left in which to submit your creative writing, artwork or musical composition to the Kaleidoscript! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be a published artist! The deadline is this Friday, March 2nd. The release date to the public will be early May. See Mrs. MacLennan in room B215 for details.

 

SPORTS

Any basketball girl wanting to go out for track should take 1 week off before starting track practice. Please see Mr. Bohnsack with any questions.

 

MISC

Tickets for "The Sound of Music" will go on sale to the public beginning Thursday, March 1 in the MHS Bookstore. Performances are March 22, 23, & 24.  This very popular show will certainly sell very quickly so if you want the best seats, you need to plan NOW to purchase your tickets. Performances are at 7:30 each night and a special matinee performance has been added on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.   "The Sound of Music" is one of the most popular classics in musical theatre and the Moline High School cast of 85 plus full orchestra and crew will bring this story to life right here in our auditorium. You won't want to miss it! Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for students. Stop by the MHS Bookstore today!

Seniors attending Black Hawk College should plan on attending “FYI Night” at Black Hawk College on either February 28th or March 8th at 6:00 p.m. in Building 4 on second floor. You will receive information on setting goals, paying for college, exploring careers, and registering for classes. Please see your counselor for more information.

 

SPORTS

Girls soccer practice starts today in the cafeteria. Meet in the cafeteria at 3:15. If you haven’t already turned them in, bring your parent permission forms and sports physicals.

The list of Industrial Tech and Engineering departmental honors is posted outside of D-112.  See Mr. Carlough if you have any questions.

Student Congress members: Set-up for Sadie's has changed. It will now start at 10:30 am on Saturday at Wharton.

 

COUNSELING CENTER

Seniors: If you still need to complete your FAFSA for financial aid for college next year, Black Hawk College is hosting College Goal Sunday this Sunday, February 26th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the BHC Building 1 Lower Lobby. There will be one on one assistance and Spanish translators available. For more information, please see Mrs. Dexter in the counseling center.

SPORTS

Softball tryouts will start Monday, Feb. 27th. Fresh/Soph will tryout from 3:30-5:30, Jr/Sr from 5:15-7:15 in the west gym.

Attention all Staff & Students: tonight at 7:30 is your only chance to see your State Champions perform their contest play, "The Legacy Quilt" as well as see other members of Encore perform their pieces!  For only $5, you get an amazing dessert & drink, plus an evening full of spectacular performances!  Join us tonight at 7:30 in the cafeteria for a great night of Dessert Theatre!

A message to all students who ride Metrolink buses: Routes have been rescheduled so that all WEST-bound students are to be picked up behind the MHS tennis courts between 3:05 and 3:15 on regular school days. Two buses are scheduled to pick up MHS student riders at this time. If you ride home on a WEST-bound Metrolink bus, DO NOT go to the Ave of the Cities. Security officials are now re-directing students on the Ave. to catch the bus at the MHS tennis courts.

 

Attention Students and Teachers, including Mr. Schwaegler's 4th Period, Symphonic Band, who are attending the Blues Assembly in the Auditorium: please report directly to the Auditorium at the beginning of 4th period at 10:55.  This way the program may begin promptly at 11:00 and conclude at 11:45.  Thank you.

 

Stage Crew for the "Sound of Music" will meet tomorrow (Saturday) from 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. Report to the Stage via the Load In Door on Saturday morning.  Come prepared to build and paint. Remember to wear proper clothes, shoes and to tie up long hair for safety.  See you there!

Congratulations to the Mighty Ducks on their total domination of the Floor Hockey Tournament. Led by Mike Schwarz, Ty Buenting and Logan Frost, the Ducks trounced the Junior Tropics in the final 9-2. Please check the east gym for Garrett Miner’s pride…it was reported lost during the game!

Today is the last day to sign up to donate blood at Fridays Blood Drive in the west gym. If you are 16 you may be eligible to give. Student Congress will be conducting sign-ups during lunch.

 

During the Blood Drive Friday Student Congress will be collecting donations to aide the Moline Humane Society that recently burned down. The Humane Society needs clean used towels and money. You can bring your donation to the blood drive Friday in the west Gym. Bring a Towel and get a T-shirt while they last.

There will be a brief meeting after school today for anyone interested in trying out for baseball this year.  Freshman and Sophomores will meet in room J-206.  Varsity players will meet B-152.  The meeting should last about 5 or 10 minutes.

 

All boys interested in tennis this spring need to report to Coach Jones' room J208A after school today for a mandatory signup meeting. Players need to turn in their physical and parent permission forms as soon as possible to the Athletic office.

Stage Crew for "The Sound of Music" will meet in the auditorium tonight from 6:30 till 8:30 and again on Saturday from 9:00 until 2:00. Please come to either or both times if you are available. Come prepared to build and/or paint scenery. Dress appropriately with no loose fitting clothes, closed toed shoes, and hair tied back. Bring money for pizza on Saturday. See you there!

Congratulations to the girls bowling team for finishing in the top 25 in state. Great job Hannah Cuervorst, Lucy Hubbard, Jessica Howell, Kiely Miller, and Melody Welch!

Attention all bass team members: Tuesday after school the bass team will have it's picture taken for the yearbook. Meet in the cafeteria and bring bass team attire for the picture. After the picture Coach Albrecht will hold a short meeting and sign up for team members to pick times to work the fund raising booth at this weekend’s Outdoor Show. The Outdoor Show is one of the bass team's larger events, so attendance should be a priority for all team members. See Coach Albrecht in B322 if you have questions.

A reminder to staff: the PTSA will be hosting the annual Founder’s Day Luncheon on Feb. 16th. Please refer to the red flyer you received in your mailbox. If you have misplaced it, see one of the ladies in the main office for RSVP instructions, as RSVP’s are required.

 

There will be a voter's registration table open during all lunches Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week for anyone who will turn 18 on or before the March 20th primary election.  You will need two forms of ID.  Your best bet is your drivers license and your MHS id.  Voting for your leaders is one of your rights as a citizen of the United States.  Don't let others decide for you. Register to vote tomorrow.
