CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

There will be a debate team meeting today at 3:15 in J209. Please come if you are interested!

 

Authentic Voices needs more junior and senior members to apply for the board of Officers. See Mrs. Olson in the Counseling Office for an application.

 

This week's Key Club meeting has been moved from today to tomorrow, September 2nd. Meet after school in the cafeteria. All former members and anyone interested in joining Key Club are encouraged to attend! We have lots of fun events planned for you this school year. Come out and see how you can have so much fun helping our community! See you there!

 

Spanish Club will have its first meeting after school on Tuesday, September 6th in J328. All Spanish students are encouraged to join this fun social club!

 

Just a reminder that book club is September 20th during your lunch period in room E204.  We will discuss The Hunger Games over pizza.  We have several copies available now, so if you have not read it yet, please come to the Library Media Center at your earliest opportunity to pick one up.

 

COUNSELING CENTER

On Saturday, October 15, Moline High School’s high ranking juniors are eligible to take the PSAT-NMSQT exam. This exam is designed to give juniors practice with standardized testing in the format of the SAT, and it is the ONLY OPPORTUNITY juniors have to qualify for National Merit Scholar status. Any juniors interested should see Mrs. Sanders in the Counseling Center between Sept. 7th and 15th. Slots are filled on a first-come, first served basis and will be held with the $20 testing fee. Space is limited, so sign up and pay as soon as possible. No late registration will be accepted.

 

The following scholarships are now available to Moline High School Seniors. To access the description and application, please visit the Moline High School Counseling Website. The scholarships are as follows:

 

1.  Quest Bridge National College Match Scholarship Program

2.  Gates Millenium Scholars Program

3.  Brown Mackie College President's Program

4.  The Acorn Equality Fund Scholarship

 

 

MISC

Do you need a lanyard for your student ID? Lanyards will be for sale in the cafeteria today. Black or maroon lanyards are available for just $1 each.

There is a Drama Club meeting tomorrow in room E204. Hope you can make it.

 

Join us for an Upward Bound study session right after school in J222. We hope to see you there!

 

Student Congress will meet tonight at 6:30 in the cafeteria. All interested in participating in student government need to attend.

 

This is a reminder to all NHS members that Tuesday, August 30th is your annual meeting to elect officers and sign up for the fieldtrip.  Meet in the cafeteria Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.

 

This is a message to Authentic Voices members who are juniors or seniors and have been in the group for at least one year: If you would like to consider being on the Board of Officers this year, please pick up an application from Mrs. Olson in the Counseling Office by Wed., Aug. 31st.

National Honor Society members: Don't forget to pick up a ballot in the counseling center to nominate fellow NHS members to be officers or committee chairs. Ballots must be returned to Mrs. Ryser by this Friday, August 26th at 3:00. We will vote at our first meeting on Tuesday, August 30th at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

 

SPORTS

There is a meeting for all wrestlers not out for a fall sport on Tuesday at 3:30 in the wrestling room. This meeting is very important.

 

Attn all Superfans! Come to Sterling tonight to support our Moline Maroons for the first football game of the season! This week’s theme is pajamas. Please meet in the Wharton parking lot at 5:00 p.m. before we head out to cheer the Maroons to victory!

Attention all Key Club Officers:  There will be a meeting at 3:15 in the cafeteria on Thursday THIS WEEK. Attendance is mandatory; each OFFICER has forms to sign. To all other Key Club members, and to anyone interested in joining Key Club: Please attend our first meeting NEXT WEEK on Thursday, September 1st, at 3:15 in the cafeteria. You’ve been asking about it and now it’s here…Art Club! Everyone is always welcome. The first meeting is this Thursday, tomorrow, after school in room E114.

 

Drama Club is taking a field trip to Chicago on Saturday, August 27th to attend a musical at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and to participate in a workshop at the Actor's Gymnasium. Students will learn how to do circus stunts such as walking on stilts, flying on trapeze and silks, and more. Only 34 spots are available. Cost for the trip is $65. If interested, stop by room B208 or talk with Mr. Thomas A.S.A.P for information. 

 

SPORTS

Any girl interested in basketball must attend a brief meeting this Thursday at 3:15 in room B152. No fall sport athletes are required to attend.

Those interested in auditioning for the Fall Play, "Charlotte's Web" should sign up for an audition time in room B208. Auditions are On Tuesday and Wednesday, August 30th and 31st. Please ask Mr. Thomas if you have any more questions!

A reminder to all Natural Helpers: You will have lunch in B131 on all Monday’s this year. Come join us today during your lunch period!

 

Attention Student Congress: The first full meeting will be in the cafeteria tonight. Anybody interested in becoming involved is welcome to attend. The meeting is at 6:00 p.m.

 

The MHS Drama Club will hold its first meeting of the year tomorrow after school in room E204. If you love to act, work behind the scenes, or even just attend great shows, this is the club for you. Please join us from 3:10-3:30 tomorrow, and every Tuesday, in air-conditioned E204!

We have a fabulous book club here at MHS for students and staff that meets on the third Tuesday every month during each lunch period. Happy Joe's Pizza can be purchased for $.75 per slice and enjoyed while we discuss the pick of the month. Our first meeting will be September 20th in E204. Our theme is books made into movies and we have selected The Hunger Games.  We will make an announcement when the books arrive so you may pick up a copy. 

 

SPORTS

There is a boys basketball meeting in B157 at 3:30 on Tuesday. Those playing a fall sport should not attend.

Underclassmen Yearbook photos are this Wednesday and Thursday. Photos will be taken during your P.E. or Health class in the auditorium. Be sure to get the picture order forms from your P.E. and health teachers prior to picture day.

 

Starting this week, city parking tickets will be issued to vehicles illegally parked on MHS campus. A reminder to all Natural Helpers: You will have lunch in B131 on all Monday’s this year. Come join us next Monday during your lunch period!

Student Congress is open to the freshman class as well. If you have any questions see Mr. Carlough in D-Wing.

All newcomers to Moline High School who are interested in coming out for the Girls Tennis Team are asked to report to practice, which starts at 3:30. Fresh/Soph practice is at the Coolidge tennis courts; Varsity & JV practice is here at the MHS courts.

 

Anyone interested in joining the cross country team should see Coach Taylor in room E111 as soon as possible.

 

MISC

All students are to have their Moline High School Student ID’s with them at MHS and school sponsored activities. Whenever requested, students are to present them to MHS staff. Student ID’s now contain student identification numbers in a bar code. These identification numbers replace the food service pin numbers used in the past. At lunch, students must have their Student ID’s in order to swipe in their individual identification number. You will no longer manually enter pin #’s for food purchases. Student ID’s will also be used in the library. Therefore, it is important to have your student ID with you at all times.
