CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

All Kaleidoscript members who want to help with selection material for the magazine need to come to B209 any or all nights next week! There will be treats.

 

The Spanish Club is hosting a trivia night next Friday, March 4th to benefit World Relief. It will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 in the cafeteria. Any MHS student is invited to participate. Please see Mrs. Harwood in J326 for details.

 

SPORTS

Baseball try-out dates and times are available from Coach Dillie in J206, Coach Lindauer in the east gym, or in the athletic office.

 

Any girl interested in trying out for the softball team needs to be at try-outs on Monday, Feb. 28th in the west gym. Freshmen & Sophomores tryout from 3:30-5:30 and Juniors & Seniors from 5:15-7:30.

 

All girls interested in participating in soccer are to meet at the Coolidge gym Monday, Feb. 28th at 3:30 for practice. You must have a physical and parent permission slip turned in. If you have any questions, stop in the Athletic Office.

 

MISC.

Attention ALL STUDENTS!  The moment you've all been waiting for has finally arrived...The Happy Joes Pizza  and MHS BASS TEAM Pizza Giveaway begins today!  If you wore your 2011 Bass Team shirt, stop in Mr. Albrecht's room, B322, and write your name on a ticket.  Names will be drawn from all entries to receive free Happy Joes Pizza.

On Saturday the Varsity Academic Team competed in the Masonic Sectional in Quincy and captured third place after beating Springfield High, seeded number #1 in our IHSA sectional. Congratulations to Evan Aubry, Rishabh Choudhari, Adi Dahal, Rajath Krishnan, Austin Slater, Sidd Soni, and Ravi Yada. The team will now practice for the IHSA regionals in March.

 

Natural Helpers going on this year’s retreat, all former Natural Helpers, and Adult Natural Helpers will have yearbook photos in the Auditorium today at 2:30. Please be prompt.

 

Latinos Unidos: We will be having an activity Thursday after school. Please sign up with Mr. Castro in J322 today if you plan to attend. Adiós.

 

COUNSELING CENTER

Rambo has nothing on these guys! If you are interested in Special Ops in the Air Force, a group will be here today from 9:30-10:30. They will also do some demonstration. If you are interested, see Mr. Woods right away.

 

SPORTS

There will be a meeting for all wrestlers after school on Thursday in the wrestling room. Attendance is required for all wrestlers, as end of the year awards will be voted on and lockers must be cleaned out.

 

Any girl not in a sport who is going out for track needs to be at practice at 2:30 in the East Gym, or, see Coach Bohnsack or Coach Woods this week.

 

MISC.

Get your Sadie Hawkins tickets at the bookstore for $10 today. They will be $15 each starting tomorrow. You must show one ID per ticket purchased (or provide a guest form). Guest forms are due today as well. There will be a $5.00 late fee for forms returned late.

 

Attention students 16 years of age and older.  MHS Student Congress will be hosting a Blood Drive Friday, February 25, 2011.  Sign up for the blood drive in the cafeteria during lunches on Tuesday and Wednesday. Your donation can save up to 3 lives.

 

Sign-up sheets for a 6-person Dodgeball Tournament are available in the bookstore. The cost is $30 per team, which also gets each player an MHS Intramural shirt. More importantly, each team will get one free shot at Mr. Thompson with a dodge ball.

National Honor Society candidates:  This is a reminder that your applications are due today to Mrs. Ryser in the counseling center by 3:15 p.m.

Attention Spanish Club members: Pick up the club meetings schedule from your Spanish teacher. Our next meeting will be after school in J326 on Thursday, February 24.

 

 

COUNSELING CENTER

The QC Auto Service is now offering a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors with at least a 2.0 GPA.  To apply, go online to www.qcautoservice.com. The deadline for this scholarship is March 31, 2011.

 

The Paul A Peterson Computer Science Scholarship is now available to graduating seniors who are planning on majoring in a computer related field.  Applications are available in the Counseling Center and this scholarship is worth $500 with a due date of March 11, 2011.

 

The ACALM Sears Management Scholarship is now available to graduating seniors that plan on continuing their education at a two or four year college or university.  Students must have a 2.0 GPA or better and complete an essay.  Applications are available in the counseling center.  This scholarship is worth $1000 and the deadline is April 7, 2011.

The list of students earning Industrial Technology and Engineering Department Honors is posted on the door of D-112.  See Mr. Carlough if you have any questions.

 

The list of students earning English Department Honors is posted by the English Office, J224; the English Department Chair Office, E202; and the Publications Office, B Wing. Please check the list if you think you should be receiving departmental honors. See Mrs. Blackall, B201, if you have any questions.

Students, staff, and community are invited to this Saturday’s “Dancing with the Staff”, which is Moline’s variation of Dancing with the Stars. Two teachers from each building in the district are competing in this fundraiser event. Our MHS representatives are Mr. Gorgal and Mrs. Semelroth (formerly Mrs. Verstraete). Come cheer them on as they show their moves this Saturday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door for only $5 each.

Congratulations to the members of the Moline Chess team who competed over the weekend at the state tournament. The team had a winning record at state and finished 50th out of 132 teams.  State qualifiers were Sidd Soni, Yash Baheti, Adi Dahal, Ben Wolf, Kyle Peters, Seth Williams, Dan Zahn, Rishabh Choudhari, Nick Starr, Pranav Puri, and Aditya Jain.

 

Congratulations to Encore! for their success at this weekend's IHSA Sectional Tournament. Congrats to your Sectional Champions Carlie Lavin, Brendan Meier, and Jenna Pautsch in Humorous and Dramatic Acting, Zina Ellis-3rd place Prose Reading, and Jenna Pautsch for her Second Place in Oratory. Moline also won as Sectional Champions in Performance in the Round! Congrats and good Luck at the State Competition this weekend!

 

The Drama Club fundraiser items are in! Please come to room B214 TODAY and pick up your items for delivery.

 

The Varsity Academic Team will practice this afternoon. NO Fresh-Soph practice until next week.  

The MHS Book Club will be meeting during your lunch today in the Media Center. See you then!

Anyone interested in auditioning for this year's One Act Plays should sign up for an audition appointment in Mrs. Griesenbeck's room, B214. The One Act Plays are completely student directed, student produced, and student cast. This is a great way to get your feet wet in MHS theatre. The plays are only about ten minutes long, and most of the students who try out end up getting cast in a role. Why not give it a shot? Sign up for an audition appointment today!

On Wednesday night, at the annual scholastic bowl seeding meeting, Moline was seeded fifth of 26 teams in the Dunlap sectional. The Maroons will have to wait to find out if they will host one of the regionals. Senior Austin Slater was voted to the All-Sectional team by a panel of coaches. Congratulations!

2.  Skip-A-Long Virgie Wells Scholarship - Applicants must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in any field.  Scholarship is worth $750 with a deadline of May 6, 2011

3.  The Ameren Illinois Minority Scholarship Program - Students must be pursuing a degree in an engineering discipline.  Deadline for this scholarship is April 8, 2011.

All Key Club members and volunteers should meet outside the Auditorium after school today at 2:30. We will be taking our yearbook picture. We will also have a meeting after school on Thursday in the cafeteria to plan United Way fundraising.

There is a Drama Club meeting today after school in room B214. See you there!

All Key Club members and volunteers meet at the Auditorium after school this Wed. at 3:05. We will be taking our yearbook picture. We will also have a meeting after school on Thursday in the cafeteria to plan United Way fundraising.

All Kaleidoscript members are to meet in B209 after school on Wednesday to begin selection.

COUNSELING

Invitations have been sent to juniors and seniors who are eligible to apply for National Honor Society. If you are a junior or senior who has a cumulative grade point average of a 3.45 or above and didn't receive an invitation, please see Mrs. Ryser today! The meeting for students applying to NHS for next year is Thursday, February 10th during 2nd hour in the auditorium.

SPORTS

The Bass fishing team has practice in the cafeteria after school today until 4:15. Bring a rod and reel and a couple of baits to practice with. See Coach Albrecht if you won’t be there.

MISC.

Congrats to members of Encore!, Moline High School's Acting Troupe, who won as Regional Champions in Performance in the Round at this weekend's IHSA Regional Competition.   

Congratulations to students for their great work at the Evanston Township debate tournament last weekend. All debaters did a great job!
