COUNSELING CENTER

The Beta Sigma Psi Scholarship and The National Defense Transportation Association Scholarships are now available to Moline High School senior students. For more information, visit the counseling website or stop and see Mr. Bodeen.

 

MISC.

Stop by the Media Center this week and buy a recipe book for Share Joys…it’s our largest book yet, filled with many great recipes! They are only 4 tickets and will make great stocking stuffers. This is a great week to pay off any library fines as well. All fines paid this week will go to Share Joys. 

 

Donut eating teams: Your money is due to Mrs. Ryser in the counseling center today.

 

Students and Staff: Buy your raffle tickets from NHS elves this week! Elves can only take pink Share Joys tickets or checks from the staff for raffle tickets. Staff can win a 40" flat screen HDTV, a Blue Ray player, a GPS, an e-reader and much more! Students can win a 16GB ipod Nano, a Sony digital camera, a portable DVD player, a free tux rental from Ducky's and tons of other prizes. You can't win if you don't buy those tickets!

 

Starting period 4 today, Whitey's ice cream and root beer floats will be for sale in the cafeteria. 

 

Tickets for the NHS Variety Show are on sale in the bookstore for $3 each. The show is Friday during period 7. You must have your 7th period teacher sign your ticket if you plan to attend.

 

Any student interested in helping with Share Joys shopping on Sunday, Dec. 5th must sign up after school today in B201.

 

Don’t forget to stop and place bids at the PTSA Share Joys auction tonight at 6:30 in the cafeteria. For the right price you could win tickets to MHS events or pick up dinner gift cards for under cost. There are many other items to bid on as well. We hope to see many of you there!

On Saturday the Varsity Academic Team recovered from two lackluster losses in the morning to win four matches in a row and claim second place at the annual Rock Island tournament. Congratulations to seniors Evan Aubry, Adi Dahal, Rajath Krishnan, Austin Slater, and Ravi Yada. Juniors Amber Lipton, Blake Moore, and Tessa Sommers also contributed to the team's successful day.  *The FRESH-SOPH team will practice on Tuesday afternoon in J-333.

 

Attention Student Congress: There will be a meeting tonight at 6:30 in the cafeteria.

 

Young Life will meet tonight at Riverside Life Center (41st St. and 24th Ave) at 8:08 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

 

There is a Drama Club meeting on Tuesday in B214. See you then!

 

There is an Upward Bound study session tomorrow after school. Hope you can make it.

Crime Stoppers will meet after school today at 3:05 in room B152.

 

The second payment for the Illinois High School Theatre Fest is due. If you have not yet submitted your second payment, please bring a check for $75.00 to Mrs. Griesenbeck right away!

 

There is no Varsity Academic Team practice today. We will practice next Tuesday at the regular time and place. Those going to Rock Island on Saturday morning will leave MHS at 8:00 a.m.

 

COUNSELING

Rock Island County is now offering two $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors. This is a 4 year renewable scholarship and is open to applicants who will attend Black Hawk College or Western Illinois University. Applicants must plan to major in public administration, government or social studies. All applications must be submitted by June 1. Students may pick up an application from Mr. Bodeen in the Counseling Center.

 

MISC.

Attention all students: You will need Share Joys tickets to buy or purchase food, ice cream or any of the Share Joys events beginning the week of Nov. 29th through Dec. 3rd.  No cash will be accepted. You start buying your Share Joys tickets today at the bookstore or any day this week before school, after school, or during your lunch. Buy your tickets early to avoid long lines during the week of Share Joys. Help clothe students in our district who need your support!

National Honor Society Elves:  There will be a quick meeting today right after school in B131.  Please bring your raffle prizes to the meeting.

 

Attention All Yearbook Staff: We need everyone to attend today’s meeting after school in B206.  Our first deadline is near and we need everyone in to work on this year's book. We will plan work days at today’s meeting. Don't miss it.

Key Club will have a meeting this Thursday in the cafeteria at 3:10. Please bring some community service ideas with you. If you were in a fall sport and would like to join Key Club, new members are always welcome.

Any Coal Valley student or parent that is willing to give a ride home to two Moline High School students that live near 1st Street in Coal Valley is asked to let Mr. McGuire know in the main office. These students appreciate anyone’s help in finding a ride home.  

 

Anyone who would like to write a get well card for Mr. Butterfield should stop by J138 today after school to do so. If you have any questions, see Mr. Mahieu.

COUNSELING

Donut eating contest teams are needed!  We only have 23 teams signed up. To have a successful event we need 30 teams. If you have four people who are willing to raise money for Share Joys, sign up with Mrs. Ryser in the counseling center today!

 

The KFC Scholars program is now underway for graduating seniors.  The scholarship award is worth up to $20,000.  More information may be obtained on the counseling website, or by visiting the website online at: www.kfcscholars.org  The deadline for applications is February 9, 2011.

 

MISC.

Attn all students and staff: The time you have ALL been waiting for has finally arrived! The new 2010-2011 Bass Team shirts are now on sale in the bookstore. These amazing looking shirts are maroon in color and cost just $12. Get yours fast while supplies last. And, as always, all proceeds will benefit the Bass Team’s quest for a state championship this coming spring.

 

Forms for Intramural basketball are due this Friday for anyone wanting to play.

On Saturday the Varsity Academic Team made the afternoon rounds and finished 7th out of 24 teams at the annual Coaches Kickoff in Sterling. Austin Slater was named to the all-tournament team. All team members should meet in room J-333 right after school on Wednesday. We set up for our tournament on Friday at 3:10.

 

There will be a meeting for all NHS Variety Show participants tonight at 6:00 p.m. in room J212.

 

There is NO Student Congress meeting tonight. You will meet next Monday at 6:30 p.m.

 

Authentic Voices will meet Tuesday during 5th period or Wednesday during 2nd period in E204. Attend whichever meeting that fits your schedule best.

 

There is a Drama Club meeting tomorrow after school in room B214. Hope you can make it!

 

Upward Bound will have a study session after school tomorrow. See you there!

 

All junior and senior Natural Helpers who would like to be a TL need to stop by B131 at lunch, or B157 or J138 at any other time between passing periods or after school to pick up an application. All applications are due by 3:00 on Friday, November 12th.

 

SPORTS

There will be NO morning swim practice at Black Hawk this week.

Jingle Jam tickets are on sale. The annual dance will take place Nov. 24th from 8-11:30 p.m. at the QC Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf. Tickets are being sold in the cafeteria at lunch for $20 each.

 

Peter Mayer, the lead guitarist for the Jimmy Buffet Band will be putting on a concert here at MHS!  The Stars and Promises concert will take place on Sunday, November 28th at 7:00 p.m.  A portion of the proceeds of this concert will benefit Share Joys.  Buy your tickets today at the MHS Bookstore.

National Honor Society Members: There will be a brief Share Joys kick off meeting for members planning on participating in Share Joys events today at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium lobby. 

 

There will be NO Key Club meeting this week because of the Hunger Drive loading days.

 

Auditions for the winter play, Picnic, are this Thursday and Friday in B214, Mrs. Griesenbeck's room. Stop by as soon as you can and sign up for an audition appointment time slot and pick up an audition packet

 

Attn Link Leaders: Don’t forget the meeting in the AUD at 7:30 am on Thursday. Be sure to wear your shirt!

 

COUNSELING CENTER

The Big Sun Organization is offering all Senior student athletes a scholarship opportunity. The successful applicant will be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community. The scholarship is worth $500 and applications may be found at: bigsunathletics.com Deadline is June 23rd.

 

Those students who are planning to attend Black Hawk College orientation on Friday need to return permission slips by Nov. 5th to Mrs. Dexter in the Counseling Center. There will be no exceptions.

 

MISC.

This year’s Quad City Arts Festival of Tress Jingle Jam is just around the corner. The annual dance will take place Nov. 24th from 8-11:30 p.m. at the QC Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf. Tickets are on sale during lunch in the cafeteria for $20 each.

 

Juniors: Please report to the auditorium for advisory today. Make sure you bring a pencil with you!
