CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

Get spooky at the library! Hear Gothic Horror readings today during lunch.

Auditions for the winter play, Picnic, are next Thursday and Friday, November 4th and 5th, in B214, Mrs. Griesenbeck's room. Stop by as soon as you can and sign up for an audition appointment time slot and pick up an audition packet.  If you've never heard of Picnic and want to know more about the play, please join us on Wednesday November 3rd right after school in Room E204. We'll watch the classic movie and have snacks. See you then.

National Honor Society Members:  There will be a brief Share Joys kick off meeting for members planning on participating in Share Joys events on Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium lobby. 

COUNSELING CENTER

The Illinois PTA is offering senior students pursuing a degree in education a scholarship opportunity.  Two scholarships will be awarded in the amounts of $2500 and $1500.  For more information, visit the counseling website or see Mr. Bodeen.

The US Bank Internet Scholarship Program is available to all graduating senior students.  The Scholarship is worth $1000.  For more information visit the counselor webpage or see Mr. Bodeen.

Intramural Basketball sign-up forms are outside J112 and at the book store. Sign up today!

Any MHS students who would like to raise money for Share Joys and be part of the Donut Eating Contest must attend a 5 minute meeting on Tuesday, November 2nd at 3:00 p.m. in the counseling center or see Mrs. Ryser in the counseling center before Tuesday.

There will be a Line O’ Type meeting after school today at 3:00 in Mrs. Blackall’s room (B201). All editors and reporters should plan to attend, as well as anyone who is interested in writing for the Line O’ Type.

There is a Key Club meeting today after school in the cafeteria. The Loading Day participants and responsibilities will be discussed. 

All Natural Helper Students and adults: There is an important meeting today at 3:05 in Mr. Mahieu’s room (J138). Please show up, as this is very important!

All Varsity Academic Team players should meet at 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning in J-333 to get information about travel to Orion on Saturday. See Mr. Pitz if you cannot be there.

SPORTS

If you are planning on playing girls’ soccer in the spring, please attend a brief meeting right after school today in the cafeteria.

The Regional Volleyball game tonight is not a regular season game. Students and staff will have to pay $4.00 to attend.

MISC.

The sign-up for this Friday’s Blood Drive will continue during lunches today. You must be 16 years old to give blood and you must have a photo ID. Also, remember it is important to eat a good breakfast before you donate.

All students and staff are invited to a very special event here at MHS. You may already know that the Fall Play, The Taste of Sunrise, opens tonight at 7:30 in the AUD. The author of the play, Susan Zeder, will be honoring us by attending this opening show. If you can, we encourage you to attend this unique and rare experience! She will also host questions after the show is over. Join us! Tickets are only $8 for adults and $6 for students.

The chess team will practice today after school at 3:10 in J-207. Any student can participate and it is not too late to join.

Student Congress will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. in room D125.

Hola Spanish Club members! Come to make crafts for Day of the Dead on Tuesday, October 26 after school in J326. Hasta la vista!

There is a Drama Club meeting tomorrow right after school in room B214. Hope you can make it!

If you ordered a drama club T-shirt and have not paid and/or picked up your shirt, please take care of this TODAY! Mrs. Griesenbeck will hold the shirts until Wednesday. After that they will be put up for general sale.

Tickets are on sale for this weekend's Fall Play, The Taste of Sunrise. Come support your fellow peers in MHS Theatre! You may buy tickets at the bookstore for $8/adults and $6/students.

COUNSELING CENTER

Clinton/Scott and Muscatine Colleges are now offering incoming students scholarship opportunities for next year. The deadline is April 1, 2011 and there is no set criteria. Visit the counseling website to download an application, or see Mr. Bodeen in the counseling center.

Any student interested in attending either Monmouth College or the University of Notre Dame should visit the counseling website or see Mr. Bodeen regarding new scholarship opportunities.

The second semester Driver's Education date has changed again.  Students born on or before January 1, 1996 are now eligible to take second semester Driver's Education. Please bring a note from your parents giving you permission to take the class and see your counselor right away if interested.

Students who are interested in careers in law or computer science should attend a meeting at the Deere and Company Administrative Center on Tuesday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m.  For more information, see Mrs. Ryser in the counseling center.

SPORTS

All cross country athletes need to attend a brief meeting today immediately after school in room E111. See Coach Taylor if you cannot attend.

MISC.

If you didn’t get a Homecoming shirt but would still like one, you may buy one at the bookstore. They are on sale at a discounted price of $7.

Tomorrow night is the night to fill the 1000+ empty bowls created and donated by students, staff and community members for the “Empty Bowl Project”. You and your families are invited to the MHS cafeteria tomorrow night from 5-8:00 p.m. to get your fill of soup from area restaurants. The suggested donation is $10 for adults, $5 for students, or only $15 for families. Each person gets a hand-made bowl with their admission plus a soup dinner. Help our district raise money to fight hunger and raise money for the student hunger drive by attending this event!

This Friday MHS will be hosting a Blood Drive with Mississippi Regional Blood Center. If you wish to donate, you must be at least 16 years old. Student Congress will be hosting the sign-up on Tuesday and Wednesday during lunch. Permission slips will be available then.

If you didn’t get a Powder Puff shirt, but would like one, put your name on a list in the main office. If there is enough interest, we may be able to generate another order.

SPORTS

You can help support the MHS Bass fishing team in their quest for the State Championship. The team is in partnership with Stones Apple Orchard taking orders for fresh-picked red and golden delicious apples. Orders will be taken throughout the next week then the apples will be delivered to you. If you need an order form, see Coach Albrecht in B322.

MISC.

Everyone is invited to attend the Powder Puff Game tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Browning Field. Come see who will win between the Jr. and Sr. girls in flag football. Also cheer on the 9th or 10th grade girls in a tug o' war at half time. Admission is $3 or 5 cans and all proceeds go to the Hunger Drive. The student activity card will not be accepted for admission.

There will be a 50/50 raffle to support the Hunger Drive at the volleyball game on Thursday so buy a ticket and possibly win some cash!

This is the last week to turn in Home Run Derby forms to Mr. Thompson or Mr. Larson. Pick up forms outside J112.

Black Hawk College is offering a Lifeguarding Class as well as a Water Safety Instructor Course. The courses run from Dec. 1 through Dec. 15^th at Black Hawk College. The cost is $150. If you’d like more information, see the flyers on the bulletin board by the main entrance (by the “M”).

Moline High School's Fall Play is coming soon. Make your plans now to see it the last week of October! The Taste of Sunrise is a compelling story about a young deaf boy who figures out just where he belongs.  Tickets may be purchased at the bookstore for $8/Adults and $6/students.   

COUNSELING CENTER

The following scholarships are available: (see Mr. Bodeen in the counseling center if interested)

1)      Sophomore, junior or senior student interested in history, political science, Government and debate could win a $1500 scholarship to spend a week in Washington DC this summer. 

2)      The Foundation for Community Banking is offering up to $4000 for senior students pursuing further education. Students must answer an essay regarding the following topic, "How does a community bank help a community to grow?" 

3)      Paul Mitchell Beauty School is offering three $2,500 scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must have a letter of recommendation from their guidance counselor, as well as submit their application for enrollment at Paul Mitchell the School Normal. 

SPORTS

You can help support the MHS Bass fishing team in their quest for the State Championship. The team is doing an exciting fundraiser that will be beneficial to both the team and to all of you. We’re in partnership with Stones Apple Orchard, and the team is taking orders for fresh-picked red and golden delicious apples. Orders will be taken throughout the next week, and then the apples will be freshly picked from the trees and delivered to you. These are the same apples that you would buy at all Quad Cities Hy-Vee stores, and the bass team is selling them at a very fair price of 60 cents per pound. And remember, all proceeds will go to help fund the Moline Bass Team. Contact coach Albrecht in B-322 with questions or to pick up an apple order form from the Athletic Office.

Attention all students: if you want your 1st hour class to win a breakfast bring cans...cans....cans to your first hour class! The class with the most pounds collected will win breakfast pizza for the whole class!

The drama club t-shirts are in! If you have already paid, you may pick up your shirt in B214, Mrs. Griesenbeck's room.  If you haven't paid yet, please bring your $10.00 to Mrs. Griesenbeck ASAP and pick up your shirt at the same time.

Crime Stoppers will meet after school today in B152 immediately after school.

The birth date for second semester Driver Ed. has changed again. If you were born on or before December 1st, 1995 and would like to take the class, bring a note with parent permission and see your counselor right away. Spaces will be filled on a first come first served basis.

The Community of the Great River Bend is now offering a variety of scholarships to Moline senior Students. Please visit the counseling website for the specific scholarships, or stop by and see Mr. Bodeen for more information.  Deadline for these scholarships is February 17, 2011.

The Iowa/Illinois Autoshow is now offering two scholarships available to Moline High School students. Criteria may be found on the Moline counseling website and the deadline is January 4, 2011.

Comedy Sportz tickets for Friday are on sale for $3.00 at the bookstore.

Students, Faculty and Staff are invited to a Homecoming Concert of the Orchestras and Jazz Band tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Moline High School “Memorial” Auditorium. The hour long concert will feature music of the Baroque to Big Band. Tickets are available at the door.

Hey Sophomores!  Don't forget about float building tonight.  We are building at the Christian Friendliness Center on 41st street and 12th avenue in Moline. Float building starts at 5 o'clock, come on out and support your fellow classmates!

There will be a college night at the St. Ambrose University Rogalski Center. You can meet representatives from more than 90 colleges, universities, and technical schools. This event will take place on Monday, October 11^th from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.

There will be a brief boys’ tennis meeting today immediately afterschool in coach Jones' room, J208A. Booster Bash tickets also need to be turned into coach Jones by today.

COUNSELING CENTER

This is a reminder to all NHS members on the Teacher Appreciation committee: On the morning of Friday, October 8^th, you are to bring your items for the luncheon to the counseling center.

P.E. No Dress Passes will be sold at the bookstore today & before school on Friday. Students who buy this pass pay only $1.00 and don’t have to dress for P.E. on Friday Oct. 8th. Students MUST participate in P.E. but DO NOT have to dress. Support the Student Hunger Drive and purchase a P.E. No Dress.

There are a number of you who have not served detentions for sweeps and classroom issues. You have until this Saturday to get these detentions served or you will not be allowed into Homecoming. We have opportunities the rest of the week for you to serve detentions. The cafeteria will have staff on hand to help you serve your time after school. If you have multiple detentions, we have a long detention time this Saturday. That will be your last chance to serve.
