SPORTS

There is a meeting after school today in the wrestling room for any student interested in joining the wrestling team. This includes anyone who would like to be a manager as well. The meeting will be brief but it is important you attend if you are planning on wrestling. If you can not attend please see coach Ealy, as important papers will be handed out.

There will be a short informational meeting on Monday, November 2^nd at 3:30 in the gymnastics room for anyone interested in trying out for the winter season JV cheerleading squad.

MISC

On the Saturday October 31st performance of Lend Me a Tenor, a two dollar discount will be given to anyone in a Halloween costume. This discount only applies to tickets sold at the door on Saturday.

This is a reminder to bring cans for the Student Hunger Drive. Our numbers are way down this year. We have a lot of catching up to do! You may also contribute to this cause by purchasing a t-shirt for only $8 at the bookstore. Thanks to all who have helped!

There’s a Physical Comedy (Clown Troupe) workshop at the Davenport Parks & Recreation office on Monday, November 2^nd at 7:00 p.m. A former clown instructor for Ringling Bros. will head up the meeting and lecture. The contribution is only $5 for non-members. If you have additional questions, see Mrs. Griesenbeck.

Hey Art Club!  Don't forget the Halloween party today after school. Learn the tricks of scary makeup techniques and don't forget the treats.

Kaleidoscript will meet tomorrow after school.

Latinos Unidos will meet Thursday after school in J322 to make sugar skulls.

Key Club will have a meeting Thursday after school in the Cafeteria. We will be organizing loading days.

SPORTS

If you plan on participating in a winter sport you must have a parent permission slip, current physical, and athletic ticket. You must have these things before you try out. Stop by the athletic office if you have any questions.

Girls basketball open gym will be at 3:15 in the East gym today. Also, there will be a mandatory meeting on Thursday at 3:15 in the east gym for all girls interested in playing this season. Open gym will follow the meeting. Refer any questions to Coach Ford, Coach Voss, or Coach Ritchie.

Buy your tickets now to the hilarious Broadway comedy "Lend Me a Tenor." Scream with laughter as you watch this story of mistaken identity, sex, lies, booze, and ... opera? Hmmm... Tickets are $6.00 for students and $8.00 for adults, and can be purchased at the MHS bookstore or at the door.

Come see the play, then go straight to your favorite Halloween party without the inconvenience of changing clothes. This discount only applies to tickets sold at the door on the October 31st performance.

Congratulations to the Seniors who won Powder Puff and the Sophomores who won the fresh-soph tug o' war. The Jr. and Sr. super-fans got out and did a tug also. Juniors pulled away with the victory on that one.

Students: we really don't have the number of cans that we have in past years, so please bring them into 1st period or to the bins by the main office. We still have Food Drive t-shirts that we are selling for $8 in the bookstore. Everyone who has one and wears it on Friday will get a special treat at lunch.

The regular Drama Club meeting is cancelled this week due to “Lend Me a Tenor” rehearsal. We will resume on 10/27.

Going to haunted houses and visiting grave yards is not nearly as scary as entering Kaleidoscript’s fall poetry contest. You can win cash prizes by submitting poetry by Tuesday to room B209. In your poetry, tell us what you fear. Enter at your own risk.

All students: Today and tomorrow you will be able to buy tickets to purchase baked goods from our "Souper-Heroes" to raise money for the hunger drive. Buy your tickets during lunch or after school. You may get them before school tomorrow as well. You must have tickets, money will not be accepted for the goods.

Americas Few: Those who answer the calling will find out if they have what it takes. Marine’s ROTC Scholarship is available. Sgt. Gibbs will be here on Tuesday at 8:45 for interviews. You must have at least a 22 on the ACT to qualify for an interview. See Mr. Woods if you have any questions.

Drama Club: the regular Tuesday Drama Club meeting is cancelled this week and next- due to “Lend Me a Tenor” rehearsal. Regular meetings will resume Oct. 27^th.

Latinos Unidos: This Thursday after school we will be meeting in J322 to make crafts for the Day of the Dead. We will work until 4:00 p.m. See you Thursday. Adios!

Attention Spanish Club members! Come to J326 after school on Thursday! We will learn about some Day of the Dead traditions and make sugar skulls. Hasta luego!

COUNSELING CENTER

This is a reminder to seniors: You must return permission forms to attend the November 25^th orientation for Black Hawk College. The forms have to be returned by October 15^th. Please bring them to Mrs. Dexter in the counseling center. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS made to the due date!

Good news for those students who have not yet purchased a yearbook! You may still get a yearbook for $45 through October 16^th – so hurry to the bookstore to save!
