Attention Art Club members! There will be an Art Club meeting after school in E114. We will be learning about silk screening. Hope to see you there!

Link Crew applications for the 09-10 school year are due NO LATER than 3:05 p.m. TODAY!  Even last year’s crew must reapply if interested. No late applications will be accepted!

Congratulations to all 2009 NHS inductees! Lists are posted in the showcase by the “M” and outside the counseling center.

Counseling Center

Are you interested in your community? Would you like to volunteer to learn about community issues or about how can you play a role in making a difference? If you said yes to any of these, you should see Mrs. Dexter in the counseling center.

Would you like to learn more about engineering?  St. Ambrose University invites those who are interested in exploring engineering careers to an open house. It will be April 7^th (over Spring Break) at the Rogalski Center from 5:30-8:00 p.m. See Mrs. Dexter if you’d like more information.

Want a job? If so, the Rock Island Aquatics Swim Club will need to hire life guards. Mrs. Dexter has info on this opportunity as well.

SPORTS

There is a mandatory meeting for all wrestlers on Thursday after school in the wrestling room. If you are a wrestler, you need to be there.

MISC.

John Deere is accepting intern applications. There will be a question and answer session about the internship and application process on Thursday, period 3 in room A 152. See Mr. Carlough for information.

One of our students was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. In order to offset medical expenses, family and friends are coordinating a fundraising event. On Saturday, May 9^th, beginning at 1:00 p.m., there will be a bake sale, silent auction, music, raffle prizes, and a taco bar at the Moline VFW. Please make an attempt to show your support in this benefit to help a fellow student If you’d like more information, a flyer has been posted on the bulletin board near the main entrance.

MISC.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Then come on down to the MHS Auditorium for a night filled with amusement. Student directed One-Act performances are this Saturday, March 28^th at 7:30 p.m. Admission is only $5 for adults and students. This year’s One-Act plays include “Life Inside a Hershey Bar”, directed by Caleb Randol, “Dinner With the McGuffins”, directed by Cassie Goodpaster, “Check, Please”, directed by Hillary Pieper, and “Drugs Are Bad”, directed by Jessica Graham. So come support your fellow peers as these seniors debut their directing skills and the actors put on some hilarious productions.

Authentic Voices: Tuesday is the very last chance to sign up for Friday’s conference at the Butterworth Center. See Mrs. Olson by 3 p.m. on Tuesday if you would still like to sign up.

SPORTS

There will be an informational meeting Tuesday, March 24^th for anyone interested in trying out for cheerleading. We’ll meet at 7:00 p.m. in the west gym.

There’s a Drama Club meeting today! Join us in room B214, Mrs. Griesenbeck’s room, right after school. Drama Club fundraiser items made finally made it in as well. Make sure you come to today’s meeting to pick up your items.

All Natural Helpers are invited to Sam’s Hideaway at Highland Park Bowl on Wed. from 5:30-7:30. A $3.00 donation for pizza would be appreciated.

Quad Citians Affirming Diversity will have a meeting on Sunday, March 22^nd at 6:30 p.m. at the QCAD Center located at 1608 2^nd Ave, Rock Island to plan and prepare for the upcoming Day of Silence.

Some colleges have announced their summer high school programs and more are coming in each day. Students interested in participating in a summer college experience should see Mrs. Sanders in the counseling center for application information.

The Varsity Academic Team beat Quincy last night and advanced to the sectional. In their IHSA regional, the Maroons prevailed in a closely fought final. With the match still in doubt on the last of 30 toss-up questions, Suharsh Sivikumar rang in with the correct math answer, sealing the deal for Moline. Congratulations also go to Jessamyn Lockhard, Ryan Lundeen, James Martin, Luke Padula, and Ellen Tagtmeier who all
contributed to victories over Geneseo and Quincy. The team travels to Dunlap Saturday to play 3 matches against other regional champions. Go Team!

Attention all drama club students who sold fund-raiser items: Your items will be delivered to Room B131 on Thursday March 12th. Please pick up your items after school tomorrow. Items that are not picked up will be moved to Mrs. Griesenbeck's room, B214. Please make arrangements to transport your items on this day.

The Bass Fishing team is selling limited edition t-shirts for $10 & sweatshirts for $20. Buy yours in the bookstore before they sell out!

The Rural Health Careers Camp is being offered for those students who have ambition to go into the health field. Mrs. Dexter has more information if you are interested.

Seniors: you may pick up your graduation invitations in the Auditorium lobby until 3:30 p.m. today. If you do not pick them up from here, you will have to go to the company to get them. Please make every effort to stop down to the AUD lobby today.

Students who want to go to 7th period sounds this Friday need to buy a sticker in the bookstore for $2.00. Stickers need to be purchased by Thursday after school and shown to your 7th period teacher before class on Friday. All money raised goes to United Way.

The list of seniors receiving Science Departmental Honors has been posted outside rooms E105 and E301. Please review the list and report any errors to Mrs. Fitzpatrick.

Departmental honors for Family & Consumer Sciences are posted outside C120. Please check the list. If you think you should have honors and are not listed, see Mrs. Gross.

The list of department honors for the Business & Technology department is now posted outside room B314. Please check the list and if your name is not included and you feel it should be, please contact Mr. Ehlers or any business teacher. Remember to also check for the correct spelling of your name.

Foreign Language honors are posted as well. Check the list outside J324. If you have questions see Mrs. Meier in room J323.

The final sign-up for Dad’s Club softball will be tonight near the display cases by the main doors of the building. Sign-ups will be from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Again, this is the final sign-up. Don’t miss your chance!

All juniors and seniors who qualify to apply for National Honor Society have been notified that they must attend an application meeting on Wednesday, March 4^th during period 2. If you think you have a 3.45 or above cumulative G.P.A. and did not receive a note about the meeting, see Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center on Tuesday.

SPORTS

JV softball tryouts will be held after school today from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and Varsity tryouts will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the West Gym.

There is very brief fresh/soph boys’ tennis meeting in the cafeteria today after school. The meeting will only last a few minutes.

We will be holding mandatory boys’ tennis practices outside starting Wednesday at 3:30.

MISC.

Chicago Shakespeare Theatre will be presenting "A Midsummer Night's Dream" here at Moline High School on March 12th during periods 6 and 7. You can buy tickets for only 10 dollars from your English teacher! This is an awesome opportunity to see a comedic show that you won't want to miss!

This is a reminder to students to check the Mathematics Departmental Honors lists. They have been posted in math rooms. Please alert Mr. Weller if you find any discrepancies.

Social Studies Department Honors are posted outside E217 & E219. Please check the list and let Mr. Ehlers know if a correction or change is needed.

This is a final reminder to juniors of the upcoming ZAPS Seminar. This is a 5 hour seminar designed to familiarize students with the ACT. The seminar will be offered Wed. and Thurs. this week from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. and/or 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. in room B152. The cost is $79.00. You may bring payment to the main office or take it with you the day of the seminar. If you have questions, see Ms. Hughes in the main office or refer to the mailer sent to you from ZAPS.

The Intramural basketball tournament starts tonight at Wharton. The schedule is posted outside J112. Games start at 6:05 p.m.
