CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
The first Drama Club meeting of the year will be Tuesday, August 25th right after school (3:10-3:30) in Room E204. Drama Club is open to all students. Join us to learn about upcoming auditions, theater opportunities, and field trips, including the Illinois High School Theater Festival. If you're serious about having fun, this is the club for you! See you there! (If you can't make it this week, never fear, you may always join us later when your schedule clears up. We meet every Tuesday.)
Attention Line O Type Editors: We will have our first meeting after school on Tuesday in Mrs. Norcross's room (room B206) to discuss the schedule and Trello accounts. This is an important planning meeting, so please make arrangements to be there. If you absolutely can't make the meeting, please stop in to discuss the details of the meeting with Mrs. Norcross.
Calling all creative people! Kaleidoscript, MHS' creative arts magazine, will hold its first meeting Tuesday, August 25th in Room B215 at 3:15! Any student interested in writing, visual arts, and musical composition is invited to attend. We also invite those interested in the layout, design, and publishing side of the magazine to join us. The Kaleidoscript will have weekly meetings as well as year-long activities! Please ask Mrs. MacLennan or Ms. Hays for more information on the club and publication.
There will be a brief Varsity Academic Team meeting in E102 at 3:05 on Tuesday to discuss club officers and upcoming events. This short organizational meeting is for all Varsity Academic Team members only.
Sports Unlimited is a club organized by students, for students. Club members plan non-competitive games and sports activities to promote student interaction and school involvement between general and special education students. Our first meeting is this Wednesday in room E204 right after school. Everyone is welcome.
There will be an organizational meeting of the Gay Straight Alliance on Friday in E-311 at 3:10. We will be electing officers, so if you are interested, please make sure you are present. New members are encouraged to attend! Thank you!
National Honor Society Members: Ballots to run for NHS officer or committee chairperson are in the Counseling Center. The deadline to submit ballots has been extended to Monday, August 24th at 3:00 p.m. The mandatory NHS meeting to elect officers and pay dues is Tuesday, August 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria.
There is a volunteer opportunity at QC Haunted Forest through the month of October. If you are interested in more information please see Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center.
Seniors and Juniors: Check the College Visit board in the Counseling Center.
Attention Students! Everyone is welcome to attend Open Pool Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6:00-7:00 A.M. Any questions see Coach Hrycyk in room B155.
Wrestling open gym is open to all students. We will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30. If you have any questions please see Coach Cross in room E 114.
Freshman Chromebook users: If you need help with your Chromebooks or other technology issues, please stop by your friendly MHS help desk located near the Library in room B224. Skilled MHS students are there to assist with hardware and software technical issues and to answer questions regarding use of your new devices for all students and staff. The Library Media Center, in conjunction with school and public libraries in East Moline, Moline, and Rock Island will be hosting an Author Expo September 15th-19th. Here at MHS, we will feature Simone Elkeles live and in person on Thursday the 17th during first lunch. We will have virtual visits with Amy Kathleen Ryan on Tuesday at the beginning of our first book club, Geoff Herbach on Wednesday, and RJ Anderson on Friday. Visit the display in the Library Media Center to learn more about the authors, and see the entire schedule of events! Our first book club selection will be anything by one of these authors, and are available now in the Library Media Center.
