CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

Congratulations again to the Varsity Academic Team for winning the IHSA regional held here on Monday night. We wish you luck on Saturday as you compete against the other regional winners for the sectional championship!

The Debate Team photo will be taken in J209 today right after school. Please be prompt.

COUNSELING CENTER

Due to changes beyond our control, the following classes will not be offered for dual enrollment next year: Journalism, Humanities, and Speech. These classes will only receive high school credit. If you have enrolled in one or more of these courses expecting dual credit, you will be allowed to change your English course requests. All changes must be submitted to your counselor by 3:00 p.m. this Friday. Please see Mr. Cabel in B115 if you have any questions.

MISC.

Stage Crew for the Music Man will be today from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. Please come if you are interested in helping to construct scenery for the musical. We will also be working on Saturday, 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. If you have questions, see Mr. May.

Natural Helpers: You will be having a Potluck next Wednesday, March 17th at 6:00 in the cafeteria. Plan to be there if you can!

COUNSELING CENTER

Are you interested in medicine? Maybe becoming a speech-language pathologist is more your style. How about exploring the Mississippi River or being a crime scene investigator? If you are interested in any of these, you should consider checking out Augustana’s Summer Academy. Mrs. Dexter in the counseling center has more details.

SPORTS

Any wrestlers interested in off-season tournaments need to see Coach Thompson after school today.

There is an Upward Bound Study Session tomorrow after school in B217.

 

Key Club is putting on a 7th period Sounds in order to raise money for United Way. The 7th period Sounds is this Thursday. If you’d like to attend this activity, you must purchase a ticket in the Bookstore for $2. Tickets are on sale for $2. If you’d like to participate in the show, please see Mrs. Davila in room J307 to sign up.

 

SPORTS

All girls interested in participating in track need to meet at Wharton after school today. You need to have a sports physical and a parent permission form to participate in track.

 

Any wrestlers interested in off-season tournaments need to see Coach Thompson after school in the wrestling room either today or tomorrow.

 

MISC

Anyone interested in purchasing a DVD of this year's "One Night of Melody" (a Tribute to the 70's and 80's) may contact Mr. May in the music office. They are taking pre-paid orders through next Tuesday, March 9. Each DVD sells for $10.00. You can prepay with cash or check (payable to MHS). See Mr. May in room C-125 before Tuesday.

Key Club is putting on a 7th period Sounds in order to raise money for United Way. The 7th period Sounds will be Thursday, March 11th. If you’d like to attend this activity, you must purchase a ticket in the Bookstore for $2. Tickets will go on sale beginning Monday. If you’d like to participate in the show, please see Mrs. Davila in room J307 to sign up.

Students who took Driver Education last summer are encouraged to visit the high school website (mhs.molineschools.org) for information about requirements at the DMV. Once on the site, click “Academics” then “Academic Departments” and “Driver’s Education”. There is a note posted for all summer Driver Education participants.

 

If you misplaced any items at the Sadie Hawkins Dance please see Detective Kautz in the student affairs office. A few items were turned in.

Senior members of National Honor Society will have their group picture taken for the yearbook on Thursday, March 4th in the auditorium at 3:00.

Any boy interested in tennis (who is not already signed up) needs to see Coach Jones in J208A immediately.

Girls softball tryouts start today in the west gym. Today and Tuesday fresh/soph will try out from 3:30-5:30 and Varsity will try out from 5-7:00. On Wednesday fresh/soph will try out from 3:30-5:15 and Varsity will try out from 4:45-6:45.

Baseball try-outs begin today. If you need more information see Coach Lindauer. Don’t forget you must have a physical form on file.

Any girl interested in playing soccer this spring needs to meet at the Coolidge gym today at 3:15 for practice.

MISC

Congratulations to Sarah Himsl for winning the large Happy Joes pizza on Friday. Sarah wore her Bass Fishing Team shirt and won the drawing. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Bass Team shirts again this Friday for another chance at a large pizza.

Remember that tonight is the first rehearsal for the cast of "The Music Man". Please be in the choir room promptly at 6:30. Plan to stay until 8:30 p.m. so all cast members can be measured for costumes. The rehearsal schedule will be distributed at tonight's rehearsal. You must attend this meeting-no exceptions.

We're going to State!  On Saturday the Varsity Academic Team won all seven of its matches in the Masonic Sectional held here at MHS. The Maroons will compete with 7 other large school teams on March 6 in Springfield for the Masonic Academic Bowl title. The trip will mark Moline's 10th trip to Masonic State in the last 16 years and the first since 2007, when they finished fourth.

Let's go Moline....It is time to support United Way. Key Club will be selling P.E. “No Dress” passes at lunch today, tomorrow, and before school on Thursday. The P.E. “No Dress” will be Thursday Feb. 25th. Remember you MUST participate in P.E. but don't have to dress. The cost is $2 and goes to a GREAT cause! Let's be the school that gives the largest donation once again.

Today is the Drama Club meeting right after school in B214. See you there!

Upward Bound will meet in room B217 after school today.

Smile! Yearbook pictures for Authentic Voices members will be taken this Wednesday at the beginning of 3rd period in the AUD. Afterward, we will celebrate the success of the fundraiser for the Domestic Violence Shelter.

SPORTS

This is a reminder of the meeting for any freshmen or sophomores interested in trying out for baseball. The meeting is tomorrow after school in room J206. Please see Coach Dillie if you have any questions.

There will be a mandatory meeting for all football players in E215 on Thursday after school.

MISC

Don’t forget to buy your Sadie’s tickets for only $10 at the bookstore!  They will go up to $15 on Thursday. You must have your ID to purchase tickets. Also, be sure to turn in your guest forms.  There will be a $5 late fee for turning them in after Wednesday.

The list of department honors for the Business & Technology department is now posted outside room B314 and in all the Business and Technology classrooms. Please check the list and if your name is not included on the list and you feel you should be included on the list then please contact a business teacher. Also check for the correct spelling of your name.

Students who have received 7 semesters of A’s in Social Studies classes (through first semester) will receive Social Studies Dept honors. The list is posted outside the Social Studies Office (E203). Please check the list for spelling. If your name was omitted and feel you should be on the list, see Mr. Ehlers.

Visual Arts department honors have been posted in the art rooms. Please check the list and report any errors to your art teacher.

Any MHS students interested in participating in Friday’s Trivia Night should see Mrs. Lynch in J306 for details and to sign up. Each team needs 5 people and donations for World Relief. Join us and win prizes, have fun with friends, and give to those in our community!

Second Baptist Church in Rock Island is hosting a “Dress Re-Sale” on Saturday, February 27th from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The sale will take place at the church (919 - 6th Ave. in Rock Island). This is a great opportunity to look for a prom or homecoming dress. There will be less formal dresses to choose from as well. Or, if you’d like to donate dresses you may do that as too. Drop off is at the same location the day before until 8 p.m.

Juniors: You should have all received information in the mail about the upcoming ZAPS ACT prep seminar. The seminar will be held here on Wednesday, March 3rd. It’s not too late to sign up. This is the perfect opportunity to familiarize yourself with the ACT in hopes of improving your score. If you need additional information, you may pick it up in the main office.

Luke Padesky was Friday’s winner of the large Happy Joe’s pizza for wearing his Bass Fishing shirt. Everybody else has 3 Friday’s left to try for their chance at a free pizza. All you have to do is wear your Bass Fishing shirt on Friday’s and make sure Coach Albrecht or Coach Prybil see you with it on to be entered into the drawing.

Student Congress will be meeting immediately after school today in room E301.
